Reform of the year 5 blog

Hello,

at the beginning of this school year the children were put in charge of writing the class blog. Unfortunately this has proved to be too impractical to continue due to the level of support required by most and restrictions in availability of both equipment and time. Because of these factors I will now take responsibility for writing here - Mr Brown.

Over the last few weeks we have been looking at myths, legends and fairytales in literacy, multiplication and division in maths and Mozambique for topic. The end of the last topic saw year 5 build wooden models (with some adult help) so that we could recreate the famous Viking raid on Lindisfarne in AD 793. The models suffered the same fate as the original buildings of the time - they were burned!

For our main topic this term we are building towards a performance to which parents will be invited (details will follow in a newsletter nearer the time) combining African drumming and the telling of an African folk tale. We are currently planning to perform at 11:00 on Wednesday 14th December.

At the same time we are planning and rehearsing our pantomime to be performed in the last week of term. Year 5 are doing a performance of Beauty and the Beast and the children are currently writing scripts and thinking about stage directions and props.

We hope you enjoy the highlights from the end of last term!
