Fountain opening!

This week we had the official opening of the fountain. It was a very very wet and rainy day but Year 5 were prepared with their umbrellas and waterproof clothing. We had programmed the fountain to play some games and we showed off one of the programmes.

Everyone had a great day and should be proud of the 'dance off' they had on the fountain.

Well done Year 5!

Hard work!

Year 5 have worked incredibly hard this week with our English, Maths and Science optional SATs. Well done to the whole class for their hard working and mature attitude they have shown this week whilst doing the SATs. As they have worked so hard they do not have homework this weekend!!

We have also finished our oil pastel portraits inspired by the work of Picasso and used plasticine to make models of them. We made a colourful background to go with the models. They are great and photos will follow soon.

Next week we are back to normal (well sort of!). On Tuesday afernoon we are watching a performance at Ashton Park called 'My Future, My Choice'. The children have bought home permission slips tonight, please complete them and return them on Monday.

Have a good weekend!

Apologies for the lack of blog last week.

Year 5 had a great sports week and enjoyed all the activities they took part in. The quizzes they made up were very good with some really tricky questions!!!
The Brain Gym session was really good and we tried lots of the activities in class. Year 5 were excellent Country dancers! And we did the double by winning WOW and the Golden Lunch Box!

This week we have been writing from the perspective of someone else which we did really well. In numeracy we were learning about reflection, symmetry and translation, some of the work was very difficult.
Our music lessons started this week and will contiue for the rest of this term.

Year 5 were excellent in Sports Day and everyone enjoyed themselves. Hannah, Fraser, Aaron and Jasmin went on Gifted and Talented sport days on Thursday and Friday and we look forward to hearing all about it.

Roman buildings and lots more!

Year 5 have been very very busy this week!

In Numeracy we have been collecting data about each other, making graphs and presenting what we found out to each other.

In Literacy we wrote poems about making the world a better place. The poems we wrote were absolutely fantastic and are going to be entered into a competition - fingers crossed that some of our poems will get published.

We did some science experiments using an elastic band to move a tub. Each group investigated something different, had fun and learnt lots.

This afternoon we made models of the Roman buildings we designed. They are really good - keep checking this blog for photos of the finished products!

There was some great dancing from Year 5 at the disco last night and we won the Golden Boot this week.

Hope you have a fun, enjoyable and relaxing break. Fingers crossed for some nice weather!

Great Dancing Boys!!

The Romans

Sorry for not writing a blog for the last couple of weeks.

We have been very busy with our Roman topic. In literacy we have written leaflets persuading people to join Boudicca's army and fight the celts, they were excellent and I am sure they would persuade you all to join.

In numeracy we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been looking at equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages. Also we have looked at finding percentages of numbers and quantities.

In science this week we were observing washing powder tablets and comparing them. We discussed colour, smell, size and shape and which one we thought would dissolve quickest and then we tested them.

The Solar System!!

This week we have done lots of work on our Space topic. In small groups we made paper mache planets, a sun and a moon and we have started painting them. The children have researched the planet they are making and next week will begin making a book about their planet. By the end of term we will have a solar system in the Year 5 classroom!!

In Literacy we have been pretending it is 2018 and we have just returned from a trip to the moon. We have started writing recounts about our trip - we found some very interesting things on the moon!!

In Numeracy we have been looking at data handling and will continue to learn about this next week.

Today we worked with two actors - Tim and Tom to produce a performance. We focused on Ancient Greece, Tudor Times and The Roman's in Britain. Everyone worked really hard to learn lines, actions and make costumes and props. Year 1, 2 and 6 came to watch the play. The performance was brilliant!!

We have still been studying Narnia this week. We watched some of the film and wrote a piece of narrative speech. The conversation was between the four children when they first go to Narnia and discover Mr Tumnas's house has been destroyed.

On Friday we mixed up with Year 2 to make things for Mrs Shore and Miss Rice to take to our link school in Mozambique. We took photos around the school and made them into a book. We made a timetable to show what our days at school or home are like. We worked really well together.

In the Autumn term we made Eleko's. This week we put them up in our classroom. It looks bright and colourful!
On Monday we have Multi Arts coming to work with us to produce a performance that hopefully the rest of the school will watch on Monday afternoon. It should be lots of fun!
